There are two types of jobs that often make employees wish for a break: a boring, non-challenging job and an overly stressful and demanding job.
Whichever job you have, be thankful. In this economy, a job is still better than no job, right? But you can’t just keep complaining about the lack of challenge or the overflowing stress. Do something about it.
Here are a few ideas on how to recharge your batteries without spending a month’s pay.
Go hiking in the woods
People have different ways of coping with stress or killing boredom. That’s the beauty of hiking in the woods. You can choose to do it all by your lonesome or with friends. What’s important is that you set a weekend to hit the trail. You don’t have to go anywhere too exotic or challenging. A good hike is about the journey and not the destination. The best part is, it’s a great stress and boredom killer.
Go get yourself a good scare
The Haunting Experience recommends hitting the haunted attractions in Minnesota and release all your pent-up rage at your boss by screaming your lungs out. Nothing like a scary attraction to get the juices flowing again. You can do this with friends or family, or even on a date with somebody special.
Go shoot hoops
Or kick it to the back of the net. Sports are some of the best stress relievers. Whether you’re into basketball, soccer, lawn or table tennis, swimming, or whatever sport, it’s always the best form of release after a long week at work. And it usually doesn’t cost anything.
Go drive somewhere
If you’re into long drives, then it should not come as a surprise that driving is your escape. No, this is not about driving to your folks’ or friend’s home – unless they live a hundred miles away. Like hiking, it’s not about the destination; it’s about the journey. So pick a location on a map and hit the road, or just go, make it up as you go along. One caveat: this requires buying fuel and perhaps some snacks.
Go detail your car
When was the last time you washed your car yourself? Well, this time, don’t just wash it and detail it instead. This is a perfect escape for car lovers. For car guys, detailing their vehicle is not a chore. It’s more like a religious experience, and before you know it, you’ve been working on your vehicle an entire day.
You don’t need to spend a thousand bucks to get some respite from your boring or stressful job. All you need is a plan – or the lack of it. Whatever you do, don’t wallow the weekend away in your pajamas.
